What is Vacation Ownership?
Vacation ownership is the legal arrangement which permits a purchaser to own or use exactly the amount of time required at a particular holiday accommodation (apartment, villa, cottage, etc.) for a specific number of years. Purchases are usually made in periods of one week for durations that range from 30 to 90 years.
How does the Vacation Ownership industry operate?
Normally, a developer builds a holiday resort complex which comprises accommodation (units of various sizes depending upon demand patterns) and other recreational facilities (swimming pool, tennis courts, restaurants, bars, etc.). The developer sells weeks of occupation in the holiday units directly or through marketing organizations. Vacation ownership are priced according to the quality of location, type of accommodation, range and quality of facilities available and the time of the year chosen. Normally, three price slabs of peak, medium and lean seasons are demarcated. Purchasers opt for holiday period most suitable to them at the stipulated price.
